The fitted master brake cylinder didn't work for long. I had to pump more and more to get pressure and at some point I had to change it. Although the found Ford Fiesta item wasn't a direct fit, it was almost perfect and could be mounted with some minor changes. Since that day I had a functionning brake, but the pedal was quite hard. I drove the car for some time but already with upgraditis on my mind. Then I got aware of the Hispec brakes and ordered 4-piston brakes with M16-lugs and bolt pattern. A perfect fit, and with the bigger piston surface, the pedal wasn't as hard anymore. Ferodo DS2500 pads only need a little warm-up. The braking performance is just great. Every caliper weighs less than one kilo, which is around three kilos less than the original Cortina/Taunus calipers. In all a six kilo unsprung weight saving. I will keep the drums at the rear wheels, an upgrade to discs is unnecessary.

Exhaust manifold
Soon after the first road trips with my Seven (I bought it 3rd hand at least), the exhaust manifold cracked. Welding made it crack on a different place and so on. It just wasn't made right and vibrations under its own weight made it crack again and again. A friend had collected different manifolds from Escorts and Westfields and I could borrow them from him to check for fit. One 4-1 manifold with a welded Westfield sign was from a right hand car. The pipes coming from the flanges were too long and some bends collide with the steering column. I cut them short and a professional welder put the flanges back on. Since then no more cracks. The higher wall thickness and the stainless steel together with the bigger overall pipe diameter make it the ideal manifold for my exhaust system.

Dashboard
One of my first mods was to change the dashboard. Less gauges mean less weight. The central Stack includes RPM, speed, water and oil temp, odometer and tripmeter, a progressive shiftlight and lots of other gimmicks like quarter-mile timing, 0-100km/h acceleration a.s.o. Underneath remains oldfashioned with an oil-pressure and a fuel gauge, in the middle you can see the AFR-meter from Innovate. This unit measures the air fuel ratio (lambda) and with the help of a controller, the read values can be exported to a ECU thus altering ignition and/or injection. This may not be the last version of the dashboard. It might just have more class with all the gauges from the same manufacturer. In this case, I would opt for a full set of Stack gauges... time (and funds) will tell.

X-flow
This is how the engine looks for now. I love it very much, the way it revs, the noise, its odour... but also how it sometimes coughs and barks! Mods visible on this pic are the catchtank with K&N breather filter, the Super Seven valve cover (quite rare)... and maybe that intriguing copper pipe lurking out of the scuttle. The latter will be the new fuel pipe once I convert to injection. A less beautiful sight is the breaker box and general appearance of electrics. A new breaker box is ready for installation and will be added soon.

Jacob - start today
This is weird.
With all the possibilities nowadays to spread what you want to spread, without knowing anything about html, php, mysql, or whatever tool you once needed to run your proper webpage, you just do some clicky here, clicky there, and here we go.
This blog I called Jacob which stands for "Just Another Car Owner's Blog" because there already are so many. Depending on patience and available time, I will try to post and update my blog and show some of the mods I made to my car.
That's it for now. The pics are saved on a different PC anyway, consider this as a starter.
