Engineer's rule

When mounting the wide track suspension, the steering has to be lengthened to match. The factory adds steel extensions with a mere 15mm inner thread (right one in the pic). Aftermarket sellers like Rally Design opt for a different style with about the same amount of thread, but on the outer. The latter (left one) is made of aluminium. Both solutions don't suit me. I can't find any other type of extensions, so I may stick with those from the original kit. The engineer's rule says that a bolted connection is sure enough with 0.8x the diameter. With M14 this means 11,2mm of thread length, so I should be on the good side anyway.

Wide Track

The new coils arrived on Friday just in time for the weekend. While I still wait for an answer fromWestfield about the right type of spring, I ordered a pair of Faulkner springs weighted 275lbs/in and measuring 11in (1.9in ID). This will be my starting point for the set-up. I based the weighting on different forum posts ranging from 225 to 300 with some authors recommending to go stiffer with wide track. We'll see.

Wide track

The story so far ... as written earlier, the original wishbones are not available anymore and the wide track kit was on offer, so here we go for 50mm more track width per side. No description, installation manual or instructions available, I got a headache to try and find out how to mount the shock absorber brackets.

Have a look how to position it, drill a hole ...

... and fix it with a bolt. British engineering!

Short uncertainty

Although I haven't finished stripping the car (and still waiting for the insurance company to pay), I start to investigate for prices and availability of parts. When asking for new wishbones, a call at Westfield Sportscars made me uncertain whether they may still be available. After sending them all the details and a photo with measurements, the sales person double-checked with other staff members and confirmed they still are produced (pheeew...). They even have a special offer until Christmas for the wide track conversion (see below).

This kit adds 50mm of track width per side (for a total of 100mm) and it's price is even lower than what I would have to pay for the standard track wishbones. Decisions, decisions... I'm nervously looking forward to place that big order and wait for the goods to arrive. Well, patience is not really one of my virtues.
